FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

QUESTION:
Does Marriage revoke your Will ?

ANSWER:
Yes, it does under Section 12 Wills Act 1959 / Section 12 Wills Ordinance 1953 (Sabah). When you marry, any Will made before the marriage is revoked. Since your Will is revoked by marriage, you should make a valid Will after marriage. But you can make a valid Will “in contemplation of marriage”. And such a Will is effective after the wedding.
